Chuck English, a senior at Cal State Northridge, has been selected to the U.S. mens volleyball team that will compete at the World University Games, Aug. 24 to Sept. 4 at Kobe, Japan.

English, a 6-2, 190-pound outside hitter from Verdugo Hills High, is the only Northridge player ever to make the All-California Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. team. He earned an honorable mention to the squad last season.

Steve DiLucca has been named varsity baseball coach at Burroughs High in Burbank.

Last season, the Indians (9-13) finished last in the Foothill League under Karl Keller.

Motocross racer Johnny O’Mara of Simi Valley has moved into a tie for second place in the American Motorcyclist Assn. 250cc Nationals standings after finishing second Sunday to teammate Bob Hannah in Millville, Minn.

O’Mara, a Honda rider, is now tied with Yamaha rider Rick Johnson. O’Mara trails Johnson’s teammate and point leader Jeff Ward by 20 points.

In 125cc Nationals action, Erik Kehoe of Granada Hills finished fourth, while his Suzuki teammate A.J. Whiting of Sherman Oaks finished fifth at Millville. Honda rider Ron Lechien won the class.

Thurlow Rogers of Van Nuys won his first stage race in the Coors International Bicycle Classic with a breakaway finish Saturday on a circuit through downtown Aspen.

Rogers also won $1,470 in prizes by finishing first in most of the laps of the two-mile course.

The 16-race series, which began in San Francisco, ends Sunday at North Boulder Park in Boulder, Colo.

Royal High water polo coach Steve Snyder selected a team of Southern California high school water polo players that is touring Asia on a 10-day competition tour.

Team members include Dain Hurst, Geoff Hoover, Tom Brewer, Lance Dempsey, Tom Wolf and brothers Greg and Matt Frazier, from Royal.

The team will visit Korea, Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China.
