Bauer and Longo Win Cycling Stages

ESTES PARK, Colo. — Canadian Steve Bauer, a 1984 Olympic silver medalist, pulled away with five laps to go and won the 47-mile, 35-lap Estes Park circuit race Wednesday in the Coors International bicycle races.
Earlier, Jeannie Longo of France won the women’s 20-lap, 27-mile circuit race.
Greg LeMond remained the overall men’s leader after a seventh-place finish.
Bauer finished in 1 hour 49 minutes 31 seconds, 37 seconds ahead of a pack led by Doug Shapiro and Jeff Pierce.
Longo easily outdistanced the field to win the women’s event in 1:10:14, beating Inga Thompson by 36 seconds. Rebbecca Twigg was third, another 1:04 back.
