Siskiyou County has been chosen to supply the 1986 national Christmas tree. Zane Grey Smith Jr., chief of California’s 18 national forests, said the tree would be picked from the Klamath National Forest. The state had earlier won a lottery conducted by the U.S. Forest Service in Washington. “We’re really very excited that the tree will be coming from Siskiyou County,” Yreka Mayor Donald Pierce said. The tree--which will be displayed on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol--will be the first to come from west of the Mississippi.
