Chacon Knocks Out Frias in Seventh
Bobby Chacon fought back from a slow start Thursday night to knock out Art Frias in the seventh round of a lightweight bout between two former champions.
Chacon, 135 3/4, of Oroville, went down in the first round from a right-hand punch and was bloodied in the fifth from a cut over one eye.
But Frias, 135 1/2, of Los Angeles, was stopped at 2:03 in the seventh round. Chacon snapped his opponent’s head back with a right, then went to the body, and the bout was stopped with Frias helpless against the ropes.
Chacon (57-7-1) is a two-time world champion in the featherweight and super-featherweight divisions. Frias (28-5) is a former world lightweight champion.
