Builder Drops Plan for Larger Copter
The builder of the 21-story Westwood Gateway building at Sepulveda and Santa Monica boulevards has withdrawn a request to land a 9,000-pound helicopter on the roof, according to a spokesman from Councilman Yaroslavsky’s office. The builder, Bren Investment, has agreed to abide by a conditional-use permit granted in 1983 that provides for a 3,500-pound helicopter to land on the helipad.
In response to the withdrawal, the Los Angeles Planning Commission rescinded its action of last month, which modified the original permit and increased the permissible size of the helicopter to 9,000 pounds.
The helipad has never been used. After it has been in use for six months, the builder can apply again for a weight increase.
