The county coroner’s office said it was trying to determine the identity of a male jogger who was struck and killed by a car Tuesday morning as he tried to cross the 6th Avenue ramp onto northbound California 163.

The jogger was crossing the ramp with his back toward oncoming traffic when a vehicle struck him from behind, throwing him forward about 150 feet, the California Highway Patrol reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy coroners say the man was in his early 30s. He had on a dark jogging suit and headphones when the accident occurred and authorities said he may not have heard the approaching car.
