Bloodstock Research Inc. and the Kentucky Horse Center announced that the two firms have joined to offer $27 million to purchase controlling interest in Spendthrift Farm Inc.

Bloodstock President Richard Broadbent III and Robert Hagopian, president of the Horse Center, announced the bid at a Lexington news conference.

The proposal breaks down to about $3 a share for the 8,901,666 common shares of the stock owned by Leslie Combs II and his son Brownell Combs II. The Combses announced Monday that they were selling their shares, which total 63.7 percent of the shares, for “personal reasons.”
