A U-Haul truck, seized earlier this week because law enforcement authorities believed it contained stolen military equipment, actually was carrying legally purchased Navy surplus hardware such as bolts, rivets and 13-year-old circuit boards, Navy officials said Wednesday.
Navy spokesman Ken Mitchell said the Naval Investigative Service had determined that the equipment was bought legally at auction in April.
The Navy seized the truck after it was left, apparently abandoned, at a U-Haul office in Escondido over the weekend.
