A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against a Chicago company that bought and sold stolen military field equipment from Camp Pendleton, U.S. Atty. Peter K. Nunez announced Wednesday.

American Waste Fibers, owner George Saltzman, and employees Mark Saltzman and Sheldon Wechter are charged with 23 felony counts of conspiracy to receive stolen military equipment, receiving stolen military equipment and purchasing military property. They face penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 for each count in the indictment.

A joint undercover investigation by the FBI, Internal Revenue Service and Naval Investigative Service into the theft of military equipment from Camp Pendleton and its subsequent sale and resale by wholesale dealers in Oceanside and throughout the country, began in the summer of 1982.
