Although I have tremendous respect for Hyman Haves and the outstanding contribution he has made to B’nai B’rith and the Jewish people, I differ with him on the grant to the Wiesenthal Center.

He opposes it on religious grounds. It is not a religious issue. That the one-time grant will be administered by a religious institution for non-religious purposes is self-evident.

With many holocausts in our human history, only two have been publicly reported and fully documented.

These two are the Armenian holocaust and the Jewish holocaust.

The purpose of this grant, passed by the Senate and Assembly, and signed by the governor is to portray to the world what can happen in the affairs of mankind, and to seek to eliminate, by public education, a recurrence.

To anyone who has any knowledge of the history of mankind, there can be no nobler objective.
