Two robbers, one of them armed, took $35,000 in cash and $7,000 in checks from a man who had just arrived in the parking lot of Community Bank late Wednesday morning to deposit the money, police said.

The two men, driving a dirty, white Volvo four-door sedan, stopped the victim at 11:19 a.m. as he pulled into the parking lot at 1750 S. State College Blvd. in his pickup truck, Police Sgt. Jack Jansen said. Police did not identify the victim, except to say the money came from a local company.

Brandishing a black automatic pistol, one of the robbers jumped out of the car and forced the man out of the truck, Jansen said. The gunman then got in the pickup and drove off, followed by the Volvo.

Three bank bags containing the cash and checks were inside the truck, police said. The truck was discovered a few blocks away at Cerritos Avenue and State College. The bank bags were missing.

The gunman was described as a male in his 20s, about 5 feet, 11 inches, 170 pounds and looking “scruffy,” police said. The car driver was wearing a blue shirt.
