Local News in Brief : Teen-Ager Accidentally Hits, Kills His Mother With Car
A 36-year-old woman died Wednesday after her teen-age son accidentally hit her with a car in a North Hollywood parking lot, Los Angeles police said.
Dina Mendenez of North Hollywood was sitting on a low concrete barrier in front of the car in a parking lot at the corner of Atoll and Coldwater Canyon avenues at 4 p.m. when her son, Julio, 16, started the car and lost control of it, Sgt. Dennis Zine said. She died at 6:50 p.m. at the Medical Center of North Hollywood, he said.
The youth’s father, who was also sitting on the barrier, narrowly escaped, Zine said.
Police said the parking lot where the accident occurred is part of Los Angeles Valley College.
Julio moved from El Salvador four months ago to be with his parents, Zine said. The youth has not been cited in the accident.
