Arson Device Found at Brush-Fire Site

Arson is suspected in a Friday night fire that scorched 450 acres of brush, mostly in Angeles National Forest, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service said Saturday.

An incendiary device was found near where the fire started, about half a mile from Forester’s Haven, a retirement community north of Sylmar, the spokeswoman said.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to structures. Hot winds quickly pushed the blaze up Lopez Canyon. The fire was contained about midnight Friday by fire crews from the forest service and the Los Angeles County and city fire departments, authorities said.

Firefighters continued to monitor the area Saturday for signs of a flare-up. Arson investigators were continuing their investigation.
