Radar to Be Poised on Kanan Road Monday
California Highway Patrol officials announced Friday that Agoura-area officers will use a borrowed radar gun to begin enforcing the 50-m.p.h. speed limit on mountainous Kanan Road on Monday--three weeks ahead of schedule.
Capt. Richard Kerri, commander of the West Valley CHP station in Woodland Hills, said the loaner will be used until officers receive two radar units purchased by Los Angeles County for a crackdown on speeders. The devices are now being checked for accuracy in Michigan.
“The county put up signs advising radar is used on the road today. We think we’ll have our ducks in line so we can start using it on Monday,” Kerri said.
On Wednesday, CHP officials in Sacramento had predicted that radar would not be used along the 12-mile beach route until Oct. 1.
Highway Patrol administrators said the radar’s implementation was expedited because of growing local concern over Kanan Road’s safety. The speeding crackdown was ordered in late July by county supervisors after five persons died in summer crashes.
