Fullerton : City Agrees to Purchase Land Near the Airport

Share

City officials have agreed to pay $1.6 million for four acres of land next to the Fullerton Airport--with the federal government financing most of the purchase.

The Federal Aviation Administration will finance 90% of the cost to buy the land at the airport’s east end.

The property, which now is leased to tenants who use it mostly for hangars and other aviation uses, may have “a new innovative type of hangar arrangement” once it belongs to the city, according to a staff report. Council members voted Tuesday to purchase the property.

Fullerton officials also plan to demolish buildings left by a construction company and landscape the area, which could become an entrance to the airport, City Manager Bill Winter said.

Expansion of the city-owned airport was one of the major proposals listed for the 1985-86 fiscal year budget.
