Taking the Bus Over County Line

Share

My complaint is about the Orange County Transit District and the Rapid Transit District system. I live in Norwalk. First of all, the two companies don’t honor each other’s transfers anymore! This means if you need to use both bus systems to get anywhere, you must pay 85 cents on RTD and then 75 cents on OCTD.

Let me give you an example of the rip-off. The other day I wanted to go to my brother’s house in Cypress. (His house is exactly 5.4 miles from mine.) Cypress is in Orange County. I got on an RTD bus going to the Cerritos Mall, paid my 85 cents plus 10 cents for a transfer. Then, when I got on the OCTD bus to go to Cypress, they told my that my RTD transfer was no good! (The OCTD had stopped accepting them two weeks ago! Not only that, I had to take two OCTD buses to get to my destination of Lincoln and Denni (in Cypress). To top it all off, I had to go all the way to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park to catch my connection to Cypress. That’s about five miles in the opposite direction of where I was going!

Ridiculous! And expensive--$1.60 to go a total of 5.4 miles.

A few years back, there used to be some great RTD buses that ran in and along Orange County. But OCTD seems to have stopped all of the good buses. Try to get to Seal Beach now from Norwalk. There also used to be a bus that traveled from Whittier up Norwalk Boulevard to Seal Beach. Also discontinued. It seems now that any RTD buses that go into Orange County must have a “permit” to do so!

If you live in Los Angeles County near the border and plan to travel into Orange County, plan on paying $1.60 no matter how far you have to go!
