San Diego
The widow and friends of slain yacht salesman Kent Kasha watched Wednesday as his former girlfriend was sentenced to 13 years in state prison for killing him.
Alice Dimaculangan, 52, received the maximum sentence from San Diego Superior Court Judge Robert O’Neill.
Dimaculangan, a nurse, pleaded guilty in June to voluntary manslaughter in the April 2 shooting of Kasha, 39, who worked for Pacific International Yacht Brokers Inc. The shooting took place in a van on Shelter Island while the two were arguing.
Dimaculangan’s attorney, Michael Popkins, told the judge his client intended to commit suicide in front of Kasha because she was depressed over losing him to another woman.
“He rushed her to get the gun, and it went off in a struggle,” Popkins said. “I don’t think Kent Kasha was killed on purpose. It was an accident.”
