A cat burglary suspect was arrested by police in Fremont after a chase that lasted for nearly two hours through a six-block area. The pursuit began with a house burglary and finally involved 28 officers as a man later identified as Vernon Puckett, 32, of East Palo Alto jumped backyard fences, broke into homes, changed clothes, concealed himself in garages--and even stopped at one house long enough to make and eat a sandwich. Puckett was finally caught when a small boy heard him opening a door at his home and ran next door to call police. Puckett was found a few minutes later, hiding under a pile of rugs. Officers also arrested Calvin Peace, 28, of Oakland, suspected of being Puckett’s getaway-car driver.
