Sagafjord to Call at Santa Barbara

Fireworks, sailboat races, music and dancing will greet the Sagafjord on Thursday when the Cunard liner, on a cruise from Canada to the Caribbean, makes its first stop here.

Early in this century Santa Barbara was a regular stopping point for passenger ships, and up to the end of the 1920s steamers routinely docked at Stearns Wharf.

The Sagafjord is due to anchor at 4 p.m., to be greeted by a fireboat salute, the mayor with a proclamation and a wine-tasting party on the wharf. Sightseeing, dinner and fireworks are scheduled before its midnight departure.

The stop is one on a cruise that leaves Vancouver, B.C., today, arrives in Los Angeles on Friday and continues on through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean.
