Residents of Palos Verdes Mobile Home Park have asked the City Council to strengthen a proposed ordinance defining the rights of mobile home tenants.

Owners of the park have announced their intention to sell it to developers and have notified residents that they will have to move. In response, the council is drafting an ordinance to state the rights of tenants in such situations.

An attorney for the residents, Charles Elsesser, proposed several amendments at Monday’s council meeting, all aimed at providing specific relocation aid and compensation for residents who are forced to move. As proposed, he said, the ordinance is too “bare-boned.”

After listening to residents’ concerns, Mayor Charles Belba said he also leans toward a stronger ordinance and scheduled a study session for Oct. 14. A final draft of the ordinance is scheduled to be presented to the council in November.
