World Championship Tennis officials have announced that the Phoenix area will be the site of one of the WCT’s new super series tournaments on next year’s Grand Prix schedule.

Owen Williams, the WCT’s chief executive officer, said a site has not been selected for the tourney yet, but it will be on Oct. 6-12 in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area and will feature 32 of the top men players and 16 of the top doubles teams in the world.

It will be the first major Grand Prix tennis tournament ever held in this area and will be one of three super series events in 1986 with the others in Houston and Atlanta, Williams said.
