Dick Bestwick, former assistant coach at Georgia Tech and currently the assistant athletic director for administration at the University of Missouri, has accepted the position of executive director of the Peach Bowl.

“I very much welcome the opportunity to come back home to Atlanta,” Bestwick said. “In addition to helping make the game one of college football’s most significant bowl contests, I hope we can offer a festival of events which will help showcase Atlanta as the best city in America.”

Bestwick replaces George Crumbley, who served as the executive director since the bowl’s inception in 1968.

Bestwick, an assistant at Georgia Tech from 1967 through 1975, was the head coach at Virginia from 1976 until 1981. He also has served as a scout for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League.

Crumbley, who suffered a heart attack last March, announced his retirement because of health reasons, but served as interim director while a search committee sought his replacement.
