Laguna Beach : City to Contribute Funds for Sewer Drain Repairs
The city of Laguna Beach will contribute $18,500 for emergency repairs of an underwater sewer drain in unincorporated South Laguna.
Officials of the Aliso Water Management Agency said the repairs are needed to prevent the pipe’s collapse. In a unanimous vote last week, the City Council appropriated $18,500--the city’s share of the $100,000 that the repairs are expected to cost.
Bill Becker, the agency’s chief administrator, said underwater inspections last August revealed that sand and gravel under portions of the pipe, which extends for nearly two miles offshore, have washed away, leaving some sections in danger of separation.
Repair work, expected to take one to three days, is scheduled to begin early next month before the onset of cold weather.
