Severiano Ballesteros of Spain announced he has decided against competing in the mandatory 15 tournaments needed to retain his U.S players card.

“America is not for me,” he said in Wentworth, England, where he is preparing for his defense of the World Match Play Championship starting Thursday. “I am not going back there again this year. I will only play nine or 10 tournaments in the States in 1986 and that includes their three major events.”
