Dale Berra and John Milner “acted shamefully” and “tainted baseball” by frequently purchasing and using drugs while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Asst. U.S. Atty. Elliot McLain said in summarizing the government’s case against Robert (Rav) McCue at the drug distribution trial in Pittsburgh.

Berra, now with the New York Yankees, and Milner, now retired from baseball, committed “acts they will carry with them for the rest of their lives,” McLain said.

The case is expected to go to the jury today.

McCue, a former controller for the Easter Seal Society of Allegheny County, is accused of distributing cocaine on nine occasions to Milner, a former outfielder-first baseman with the Pirates and two other teams, and to Berra, an infielder, on four dates.
