Peter Bozanich, the new deputy district attorney in charge of the Huntington Park Municipal Court, began work this week, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office said.

Bozanich has been the deputy in charge of the Downey area office since February, 1984, the spokesman said. Before that, Bozanich was a calendar deputy in the central trials division of the district attorney’s office in Los Angeles.

Bozanich replaces R. Dan Murphy, who has been promoted to assistant director of the district attorney’s bureau of special operations in Los Angeles.

Bozanich will supervise 12 deputy district attorneys in Huntington Park, monitor their caseloads and allocate department manpower for four South Gate municipal courts and five Huntington Park municipal courts.

St. Anthony’s High School in Long Beach will inaugurate a Hall of Fame and induct four alumni during ceremonies Oct. 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Long Beach.

The charter inductees to the school hall of fame are Lt. Gen. Ernest C. Cheatham Jr., one of the Marine Corps’ highest-ranking generals and currently deputy chief of staff for manpower; Michael J. Choppin, president and chairman of the board of IDM Corp.; Rep. Daniel E. Lungren (R-Long Beach), and John Olszewski, a former professional football player who also once served as Long Beach’s chief lifeguard.

S. T. and Dorothy Ziler of Downey will honored Oct. 5 at the 10th-anniversary Charter Ball sponsored by the Memorial Trust Foundation, the fund-raising arm of Downey Community Hospital. S. T. Ziler has been a member of the hospital board of directors since 1964 and of the foundation board of trustees since its inception 10 years ago. The ball will be at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City.

Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Torreblanca has been appointed Bellflower’s community safety officer. He will be responsible for coordinating programs designed to increase residents’ and business owners’ awareness of crime prevention. Torreblanca has been a member of the county Sheriff’s Department for 7 1/2 years.

Four Rio Hondo College students who live in the Southeast area have been selected to receive scholarships of $200 each from the Whittier Rotary Club. They are Donna Kyra Wells and Darlene Wiedman of Pico Rivera and Pamela Mullan and Linda Fischer of Whittier.

Denise Branch, 10, of Downey won first prize at the Los Angeles County Fair Student Expo for her model of the San Gabriel Mission.

The competition was among fourth-graders throughout the county. Denise, now a fifth-grader at Downey’s Imperial Elementary School, made her 16-inch-high model out of a cardboard box, stucco and brick, said her mother, Katie Branch.
