Carl Lewis was denied a spot on a U.S. track and field team that will compete in the Oct. 4-6 International Amateur Federation’s World Cup Four in Canberra, Australia, because he refused to take part in a training camp, The Athletics Congress officials said.
A spokesman for TAC said that Lewis had declined to participate in a weeklong training camp for the U.S. team planned in Tokyo next week.
Kirk Baptiste of Houston was named by TAC to take Lewis’ spot in the 200-meter race. Baptiste also is on the relay team. Mike Conley of Chicago is listed as the long jump entrant.
