After Southwest High scored a touchdown and two-point conversion in the game’s final two minutes to beat fifth-ranked Chula Vista, 8-7, on Friday night, Southwest Coach Carl Parrick said it was probably the biggest win of his life.

Trailing 6-0, Brian Raspicio recovered a Chula Vista fumble on the Spartan 15-yard line late in the fourth quarter. Herbie Nelson’s run from two yards out made the score 7-6, Chula Vista. Raider offensive coordinator Paul Van Nostrand called for a two-point conversion attempt, and quarterback Alex Sanchez hit wide receiver John Walker for the winning points.

“I feel great because it worked,” Parrick said. “It’s not a league championship, but when you beat a team like Chula Vista, it’s a big win.”
