Eradication efforts were hastily being drawn up after the invasive Hydrilla weed, which poses a threat to navigation and irrigation, was discovered in seven Shasta County ponds near the Sacramento River. The ponds, ranging from half an acre to 20 acres in size, are located over a 10-mile area near Redding. State Department of Food and Agriculture workers treated one pond with herbicide and plan to drain the pond on Monday.
