A 38-year-old Fallbrook man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an illegal weapon Monday in connection with the pistol-whipping of a reserve San Diego County deputy sheriff Saturday.

Dennis Darnell Anderson allegedly attacked Kenneth Plount on Saturday after Plount pulled him over in Bonsall for not having a front license plate on his truck. When Plount approached the truck, Anderson allegedly pointed a pistol at the officer and told him to return to his patrol car, where he was subsequently beaten on the head, Lt. Bill Baxter of the Sheriff’s Department said.

Plount was taken to Tri-City Hospital for treatment of minor head injuries and released, Baxter said.

Anderson was arrested later Saturday after an Oceanside police officer noticed the truck Plount said was involved in the incident.

Anderson is being held without bail in the County Jail at Vista.
