ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. —
Lightweight Edwin Curet earned the biggest paycheck of his career Wednesday night when he stopped Gary Williams of Pomona after eight rounds of a scheduled 12-round bout.
Referee Tony Perez stopped the fight between the eighth and ninth rounds after Curet’s unanswered volley of head punches in the eighth round made Williams stagger back to his corner.
Curet, who earned a $5,000 purse, also gained a $1,000 bonus and a new car.
