The Clippers and Benjamin Come to Terms

The Clippers agreed to terms Wednesday night with first-round draft choice Benoit Benjamin, and General Manager Carl Scheer said he hopes to have the 7-foot center signed and at the club’s training camp by tonight.

After Scheer and Larry Fleisher, Benjamin’s agent, worked out an agreement earlier this week that will pay Benjamin about $800,000 a year for four years, the deal was put on hold until Clipper owner Donald Sterling could be reached for approval.

“Assuming that, overnight, they don’t have a change of heart, the contract can be legally completed by 9 a.m. in New York,” Fleisher said. “We’re very happy with the contract.”
