Attorneys for Shelby Greer of Philadelphia, who pleaded guilty to selling cocaine to major league ballplayers, said their client received an unfair sentence “for an individual who gave himself up and cooperated.”
Greer, 29, formerly of Pittsburgh, entered into a plea-bargain agreement Tuesday in which he pleaded guilty to 7 of 10 federal charges that he distributed cocaine from 1981 to 1984.
Greer’s attorney, John Zagari, said the 12-year sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Barron McCune was unjustified.
In sentencing Greer, McCune ignored Zagari’s plea that his client be given probation and put in a drug rehabilitation program.
