The Los Angeles architecture firm of Albert C. Martin & Associates has been recognized for the “unique design solutions” it provided for housing what is called the world’s most powerful laser fusion facility, called Nova, now in operation at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif.

At the recent dedication of the project, laboratory officials said Martin “provided unique design solutions for special problems, such as shielding, environmentally sensitive areas with automated control systems, and security access.”

The $176-million Nova facility features a two-story, 115,000-square-foot laboratory addition and a 60,000-square-foot office building. Martin also coordinated site work, including distribution of utilities, while Oakland-based Kaiser Engineers was construction manager.
