Associated Press
SAND POINT, Alaska —
A severe earthquake rumbled through parts of the southwest Alaskan peninsula early today, but there were no reports of damage or injury, officials said.
The quake at 1:33 a.m. measured 6.4 on the Richter scale and was centered about 40 miles southeast of Sand Point, 550 miles southwest of Anchorage, said Alec Medbery of the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer. The earthquake was not strong enough to generate a tsunami, or tidal wave, he said.
