Science Museum Exhibit to Offer a Real Taste of India

A festival of Indian exhibits starting Tuesday at the California Museum of Science and Industry will give visitors a treat for the palate as well as the eyes.

As part of the activities at the exhibit, visitors may enjoy luncheons prepared by master chefs from the Bombay Palace restaurant in Beverly Hills daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Indian Restaurant installed for the exhibit at the museum.

Spanning the Ages

The exhibit, India: A Festival of Science, signifies a span of 4,000 years from antiquity to the age of technology. The festival will run through Jan. 15, 1986. On view at the exhibition are the restaurant’s two clay ovens, tandoors, which will be used for preparing authentic tandoori dishes.

The exhibit will include objects in silver filigree, wood ivory inlay, brocade weaving, marble carving, calligraphy and manuscript writing, meenakari or enamel work and the lost wax method of casting in bronze. Leading artisans and trained docents will be on hand to demonstrate or describe the ancient craftsmanship and to answer questions.

Varied Topics

Leaping centuries into the present, a series featuring scientists and educators from India and the United States will speak on topics of aerospace, microelectronics, agriculture/nutrition and economics.

Tickets for the exhibition may be obtained from ticket offices at the exhibition entrance in the Space Building, at the Mitsubishi IMAX Theater, as well as through all TicketMaster outlets. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children. A special ticket to both the India exhibit and the IMAX Theater is $5, or $7 with the recorded tour to the exhibition. Otherwise, recorded tours are $2.50 per person.

The museum is located at Figueroa Street and Exposition Boulevard in Exposition Park. Parking is 50 cents. During football games, parking is $5 unless tickets have been purchased in advance. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with admittance until 4:30 p.m.
