A 25-year-old Anaheim man was killed early Wednesday when his motorcycle collided with the rear of an automobile involved in a minor traffic accident on the Artesia Freeway, just east of Valley View Drive, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Authorities said William Charles Laverty was driving his motorcycle west on the freeway at about 50 m.p.h. when he struck the rear of a sports car that had just rear-ended the car ahead of it. Laverty, whose helmet was strapped onto his motorcycle, was thrown about 30 feet, the CHP said.

He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange after the 12:30 a.m. accident and was pronounced dead on arrival.
