Arizona State Holds Off Utah for 34-27 Win
Darryl Harris rushed for a season-high 119 yards in 19 carries, while fellow tailback Mike Crawford scored two touchdowns Saturday night as Arizona State held on to knock Utah from the ranks of the unbeaten, 34-27.
Harris, a sophomore starting in place of injured senior Darryl Clack, had 75 of his yards in 13 carries in a lop-sided first half in which the Sun Devils rolled up 333 yards in total offense en route to a 27-0 lead.
Arizona State (3-2) finished with 436 yards in total offense, 208 of it passing as Jeff Van Raaphorst completed 18 of 24 attempts for 204 yards.
Utah (5-1) had 341 net offensive yards as quarterback Larry Egger hit on 23 of 43 passes for 248 yards, but was intercepted four times.
The Utes scored 27 points in the final nine minutes to avoid becoming the Sun Devils’ third shutout victim in the last four games.
