A Davenport, Iowa, jury is deciding if Cleveland Indians pitcher Don Schulze deserves damages from a 1981 incident in a Davenport minor league game, when he said he was thrown to the ground and injured by Ted (The Chicken) Giannoulas.
Schulze claims that Giannoulas threw him to the ground as Schulze rounded the bases after hitting a home run, causing a shoulder separation that has hindered his pitching career. Giannoulas, once known as the “San Diego Chicken,” is a “mascot for hire” and wears a chicken suit to sporting events.
