WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — NASCAR’s Grand National stock car series will return to Watkins Glen in 1986 after an absence of 21 years.
Officials of Watkins Glen International, NASCAR and Anheuser Busch announced jointly Wednesday that the race, to be called “The Budweiser at the Glen,” will be run on the 2.4-mile short course Aug. 10, 1986.
The announcement said the race, with a distance to be determined, will offer more than $400,000 in prize money.
Stock car star Buck Baker beat fellow Hall of Famer Glen “Fireball” Roberts at Watkins Glen on Aug. 4, 1957 in the first professional race on America’s best known road racing circuit.
