A 23-year-old man was killed and a 31-year-old Sepulveda woman seriously injured Sunday night in a head-on collision in Chatsworth, Los Angeles police said.

Delores Koncel, 31, of Sepulveda, was driving westbound in an eastbound lane in the 2100 block of Chatsworth Street when she collided with a car being driven with its headlights off, police said.

Scott Frederick Campbell, 23, the driver of the other car whose address could not be determined, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Larry Rumple.

Koncel, 31, suffered fractures of her arms, upper and lower legs, elbows, knees, ankles and face. Her left thumb had to be amputated. She was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she was in serious condition after undergoing surgery, according to Rumple and hospital officials.

“She literally practically broke every bone in her body,” Rumple said.

A witness told police that Koncel had been driving erratically, weaving from lane to lane. Shortly before the accident, she had run a red light, and stopped her car in the middle of the street for no apparent reason, Rumple said.
