Manager Whitey Herzog has set the Cardinals’ pitching rotation for the rest of the World Series.

His ace, John Tudor, pitches against Bud Black in Game 4 tonight. Bob Forsch will work Game 5 Thursday night, Danny Cox Game 6 if it i necessary, with Tudor to come back if needed in Game 7.

No more Joaquin Andujar.

Andujar is now 0-2 in three post-season appearances, two against the Dodgers. His earned run average for the playoffs and World Series is 7.53. He has given up 12 earned runs in 14 innings.

He still has won just one game since Aug. 23 after lasting just two batters into the fifth inning Tuesday night.

Andujar, who admonished reporters not to blame him during the playoffs, found another fall guy Tuesday night: Jim McKean, the home plate umpire.

“The umpire was bad,” said Andujar, who became especially upset with McKean when he called a ball to Lonnie Smith just before the ex-Cardinal delivered a two-run double in the fourth. Andujar jabbered at the umpire on his way to the dugout when the inning ended and continued to do so when Herzog removed him in the fifth.

“The first two innings he gave me the outside corner,” Andujar said. “After that he made me throw the ball right down the middle.

“No matter how hard you throw, if you throw it right down the middle you’re going to get killed.”

Andujar said Smith hit a good pitch for his double. “It was a slider low and away but he just hit it,” Andujar said. “When you’re in a slump, anything you throw, they’re going to hit.”

The latest word on Steve Howe, the former Dodger pitcher released by the Minnesota Twins after a drug relapse, is that he is about to conclude a six-week drug treatment program at the St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis. The Twins are paying for Howe’s treatment.

Howe, released by the Dodgers in July and by the Twins in early September, had signed a contract with Minnesota that would have paid him through the 1986 season. The contract included a clause, however, which made the Twins not liable in the event of a drug relapse.

Before entering the treatment program, Howe had expressed a desire to return eventually to baseball.

Sign hanging in the newsroom of KTVI, the ABC affiliate carrying the World Series in St. Louis: “Remember, it’s only a ballgame. It’s not brain surgery.”

The Toronto Blue Jays, minus a manager after Bobby Cox agreed to become the Atlanta Braves’ general manager, have asked the Boston Red Sox’s permission to talk to coach Rene Lachemann, former manager of the Mariners and Brewers.

Jim Leyland, third-base coach for the Chicago White Sox, reportedly is in line for the managing job in Houston.

Bob Lillis, fired as Astros manager by owner John McMullen, reportedly will be named a coach of the Giants, rejoining former boss Al Rosen, now general manager of the Giants.

The Chicago White Sox signed Manager Tony LaRussa to a one-year contract after meeting with new club operations director Ken Harrelson.

The Clydesdales toting the beer wagon upon which August Busch Jr.. owner of the Cardinals, enters Busch Stadium did not leave a deposit in the first-base coaching box, as they did during the 1982 World Series.

But they did veer slightly out of control, taking a detour over the pitcher’s mound and the second-base bag, which hardly thrilled the Cardinals’ grounds crew.

Heavyweight boxing champion Michael Spinks, a native of St. Louis, attended the game as a guest of Cardinal owner Busch.
