ARCHITECT WRIGHT’S ARCHIVES TO BE OPENED TO SCHOLARS

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s archives will be made available to scholars in Los Angeles through an agreement between the J. Paul Getty Trust and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities will duplicate a major portion of Wright’s documents in cooperation with the foundation, which maintains the original archives at Taliesin West, a community and school in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Wright’s archives are said to contain a nearly complete record of the eminent architect’s revolutionary ideas and completed projects. He assiduously saved more than 21,000 plans and drawings, a correspondence file from 1887 to 1959, an extensive set of annotated manuscripts, and tape recordings of his interviews and speeches. All these have been preserved, along with historic photographs of his buildings.

The duplication project is expected to be completed in the fall of 1986.
