Fine Spirit Upsets Her Royalty at Oak Tree
Fine Spirit drew clear entering the stretch and defeated three rivals to win the $63,100 Cascapedia Handicap for fillies and mares Wednesday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Sandy Hawley, Fine Spirit finished three-quarters of a length in front of Her Royalty, ridden by Pat Valenzuela. Sales Bulletin, ridden by Ray Sibille, finished third, another 1 lengths back.
Avenger Miss, the fourth horse in the field of 3-year-olds and up, was eased in the stretch by Laffit Pincay.
The winner was clocked in 1:23 3/5 for 7 furlongs over a fast track and paid $9 and $3. Her Royalty, the 7-10 favorite, paid $2.40 to place. There was no show betting.
