Garcia Gets Decision in 12-Round Bout
Westminster’s George Garcia scored a technical decision in the eighth round over Luis Hernandez of Redlands Thursday night in a scheduled 12-round bantamweight fight in the main event at the Irvine Marriott.
Garcia was ahead on points in the eighth round, when he received an accidental butt. According to California State Athletic Commission rules, any fighter who receives an accidental butt cannot lose the bout. Garcia is now 23-3-2. Hernandez is 9-3.
In other featured fights, New Zealand’s Steve Rendwick won a unanimous eight-round decision over Orange’s Danny Lopez in a 156-pound match. Ernie Nava of West Covina won a split-decision over Santa Ana’s Martin Lujan in the 140-pound class. In the 162s, Lloyd Weaver of Pomona knocked out Tony Pizano in the first round. Santa Ana’s Roderick Starks won a four-round decision against Hollywood’s Terry Burton, in a 150-pound bout.
