Howard Schnellenberger is a good enough football coach to know a talented team when he sees one, especially one he partially created.

“It was obvious we were beaten by a much superior team,” said the Louisville coach after the team he used to coach, Miami (Fla.), waltzed to a 45-7 victory Saturday night.

Vinny Testaverde threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, completing 13 of 21 passes, as 15th-ranked Miami improved to 6-1, while Louisville fell to 1-7 in Schnellenberger’s first year. Schnellenberger left Miami after leading the Hurricane to a national championship in the 1983 season.

“There was mixed emotions about the entire visit back to Miami,” Schnellenberger said. “It’s very difficult to sort your emotions out.”
