NEW YORK —
Lou Piniella will replace Billy Martin as manager of the New York Yankees for the 1986 season, the New York Daily News reported in its Sunday editions. The paper said that Piniella, a former Yankee player and currently the team’s batting coach, will be named to the post shortly, ending Martin’s fourth stint with the team.
Martin replaced Yogi Berra 16 games into the season and led the team to second place in the American League East at 98-63.
