A Firebaugh elementary school teacher was jailed for failing to appear in a Fresno court for sentencing on three child molestation charges. The attorney for Fred James Hernandez, 38, informed Superior Court Judge Gene Gomes that Hernandez missed the court session because of a case of intestinal flu, but Gomes issued a bench warrant for his arrest. Hernandez was remanded to jail when he showed up in court later, and sentencing was delayed until Nov. 13. Hernandez pleaded guilty in Municipal Court to charges that he molested three boys ranging in age from 9 to 14 whom he had taught at one time or another. He also admitted a special allegation that he committed sexual acts while in a position of trust, a condition that bars probation.
