Santa Ana : Officials Consider Filing Counts Against Ramirez
Officials from the Orange County district attorney’s office Friday were studying sheriff’s reports to prepare possible criminal charges against Night Stalker suspect Richard Ramirez in connection with an Aug. 25 attack in Mission Viejo.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has completed its investigation into the shooting of William Carns, 29, and the rape of his fiancee and turned the reports over Thursday to Deputy Dist. Atty. James Enright, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Enright said Friday that he would have to read through the reports before making a decision on possible charges sometime next week.
If the charges are filed, Enright said, Orange County authorities will coordinate efforts with their Los Angeles counterparts before attempting to bring Ramirez to Orange County for arraignment.
Ramirez has pleaded innocent to 14 murder counts and 54 other felony counts in Los Angeles. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 13 to have a date set for his preliminary hearing.
