Moratoriums on Fortune-Telling, Motels Extended
The City Council has extended existing moratoriums on the issuance of business licenses for fortune-telling and construction of motels.
Licenses for fortune-telling cannot be issued for another 90 days. In the meantime, the Planning Commission will consider an ordinance regulating fortune-telling at its Tuesday meeting, principal planner Valdis V. Pavlovskis said. If approved, the ordinance would be referred to the City Council.
Motel construction is prohibited for another six months to give planners time to study surrounding cities’ motel ordinances and write one for South Gate. Pavlovskis said a proposed ordinance should be submitted the City Council by late January.
